We’re thrilled to share some exciting news: Your Friend in Reykjavik has achieved Travelife Partner status! This recognition means the world to us because it shows that our small team’s big commitment to sustainable tourism makes a real difference.

TraveLife Partner level for Your Friend in Reykjavik.

What is Travelife Partner?

Travelife is an internationally recognized sustainability certification system for the travel industry. To reach Partner level, companies must meet more than 100 criteria covering environmental management, biodiversity, human rights, fair labor practices, and community engagement. These standards align with the ISO 26000 Corporate Social Responsibility guidelines.

In addition, more than 35 national travel associations worldwide support Travelife, including:

Therefore, when we work toward sustainability here in Reykjavik, we don’t act alone — we join a global movement with partners across the world.

Why It Matters

From the beginning, we set out to share Reykjavik’s culture, history, and hidden corners in a way that respects both the environment and the people who live here. As a result, becoming a Travelife Partner confirms that we’re on the right path. At the same time, it challenges us to keep going.

“We believe sharing the beauty of Reykjavik should go hand-in-hand with protecting nature and supporting the community,” says our founder, Valur Heiðar Þorvaldsson. “This award motivates us to raise the bar even higher.”

Looking Ahead

Travelife Partner status remains valid for two years, and it marks an important step on the road to the highest level: Travelife Certified. However, we see this milestone as only the beginning. That’s why we’re already working toward new goals that will strengthen our sustainability even further.

Thank You

We couldn’t reach this milestone without the support of our amazing guides, our wonderful guests, and partners who share our vision for responsible tourism. We are especially grateful for all the help we’ve received from the great people at Sjálfbær Ferðaþjónusta! In other words, this award belongs to all of us. Thank you for being part of our journey — every step we take together helps make tourism in Reykjavik more sustainable. 💚
