A Delectable Reykjavik Tour for Those Who Love Everything Sweet

Do you want to indulge your sweet tooth as you explore Iceland’s unique pastries, candy, and ice cream flavors?

Kleina (the Icelandic doughnut), Snúður (our famous cinnamon rolls), chocolate with licorice, and plenty of nammi (Icelandic candy) — this guided walking tour of downtown Reykjavik takes you on a journey through some of Iceland’s most delicious, popular, and beloved sweet treats.

The specific bakeries, stores, pastries, and candy sampled depend on the season, day, and time of each tour, but you can be sure we will always enjoy plenty of Icelandic goodies.

Our Reykjavik sweet tooth tour usually begins with a visit to a local bakery where you can sample traditional Icelandic pastries, such as kleina, a deep-fried doughnut-like treat.

You will, of course, learn about the history of anything you eat and how the bakers make it.

Next, we visit a specialty shop to indulge in some of the finest Icelandic chocolates.

You’ll discover the unique flavors and ingredients that make our country’s chocolate stand out from the rest, such as the use of licorice, birch sugar, and local wild berries.

It’s worth mentioning that Icelandic licorice is sweet and mild.

The tour also includes a visit to a local ice cream parlor. Here, you will taste some of the creamiest and most delicious ice cream you’ll ever try.

You can choose from various flavors, including some unique to Iceland, like licorice and possibly skyr, the Icelandic dairy product.

Finally, the tour ends with a stop at another famous candy shop where you can indulge in various Icelandic candies and sweets. This can include the iconic Draumur chocolate bar or the delicious combo of licorice and chocolate called Þristur.

Don’t worry if you don’t like licorice — we have other options for you. But if you give it a try, you may just fall in love with the heavenly mix of chocolate and licorice by the end of the tour!

Throughout your sweet tooth tour of Reykjavik, your expert guide will share their knowledge of Icelandic sweets and the country’s culinary culture.

When combined with the wealth of artisan stores, great bakeries, and specialist gift shops spread around Reykjavik’s city center, this adventure will satisfy even the sweetest sweet tooth.
