Tour description

Active Volcano & Reykjanes Geothermal Tour

A new fissure has opened at Fagradalsfjall at around 14.00 on August 3rd, 2022!

Join us for the ultimate volcanic and geothermal adventure! We pick you up in Reykjavík and hike through lava moss-covered terrain to Fagradalsfjall Volcano, where thousands of earthquakes formed the multiple volcanoes in Gelldingalur Valley. The beautiful backcountry of Reykjanes Peninsula offers a chance to experience geothermal wonders, natural phenomena, and places of stunning beauty! The senses are in for the ride of your life to the volcano eruption site, earthquakes moving continents apart, fantastic scenery, and geothermal activity out of this world.

The tour departs from Reykjavik at 8 AM.

Hike

This hike takes around 2 hours one way and is of moderate difficulty for a person of reasonable fitness. You will be there with an experienced guide who will tell you about the area’s geology and explain the formation of volcanoes. Please follow his instructions as you cannot enter some areas or come too close to the lava for safety reasons.

Please take comfortable hiking shoes, warm clothes, waterproof layers, snacks, and a water bottle.

Reykjanes Peninsula

Along with this magnificent volcano, our experienced and knowledgeable guides will take you to some other highlights that Reykjanes Peninsula offers. These include the boiling waters and steamy sulphuric air at the Seltún and Gunnuhver hot springs, a walk between the American and Euroasian continental plates at the Bridge between Continents, an excellent photo opportunity at Reykjanesviti lighthouse, and the black sand beaches of Kleifarvatn Lake.
