Tour description

The South Coast & Glacier Hike Tour

If you want to get up close and personal with a glacier and see the most popular and stunning spots on the south coast of Iceland, then this tour is for you.

You will see 2 classical Icelandic waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, and there will be a stop on the famous black sand beach, Reynisfjara. We will also strap on a pair of crampons, grab our ice pick and helmet and hike on the ice through twists and turns on the glacier of Sólheimajökull.

The tour departs from Reykjavik, and your pick-up starts at 8 AM

Skógafoss Waterfall

65 meters tall and 25 meters wide, making it one of the biggest waterfalls in the country. Legend has it that a chest of gold is hidden behind the waterfall. You’ll have to be as strong as a Viking to get to it.

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

Certainly not one of Iceland’s biggest waterfalls, but what makes Seljalandsfoss different is that you can walk behind the cascading water most of the year. This is a unique and memorable experience.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

In Reynisfjara, you’ll see a beautiful black sand beach and, at times, incredibly powerful waves from the Atlantic ocean. There are also impressive basalt columns on the beach and rock formations called “Reynisdrangar” that rise from the ocean close to the shore. Reynisfjara has often appeared on lists of the world’s top 10 most beautiful non-tropical beaches.

Sólheimajökull Glacier

Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s 4th largest glacier on the South Coast of Iceland. It is one of the most easily accessible glaciers to reach from Reykjavík, just 158 kilometers (98 miles) away. This is where you will hike on the ice, explore glacial features and learn about its formation.

The tour guides will provide you with an ice pick and all other safety equipment on tour.

Please note that the minimum age for this tour is 10.

You should be back in Reykjavik around 7:30 PM
