3 Day South Coast & Golden Circle Tour

Must-see, all-year-round combo in Iceland. Don’t worry about anything, and visit the famous Golden Circle and the most impressive attractions of the Icelandic South Coast with exciting glacier activity included.

Your tour departs from Reykjavik; pick-up starts at 9 AM from your hotel or designated bus stop.

Day 1 – The Golden Circle

The tour begins with the famous Golden Circle, where you will explore the Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.

Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park is the historic location of the Icelandic parliament – Alþingi (established in 930) and home of a rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. It’s geologically and historically the most important place on the island; the surroundings and views are unique.

In Geysir, you will walk around the geothermal phenomenon and admire Strokkur, a geyser that erupts up to 25 meters high every few minutes.

Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall) is considered one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland. The force of the falls and the beauty of the surrounding golden mist are a sight to behold. If you’re lucky, you can take pictures with a rainbow.

Next, we will experience the breathtaking views driving down route 1, leading us to the famous waterfall.

Seljalandsfoss is an extraordinary and photogenic phenomenon you can walk around behind a wall of water.

Then, passing the coastal village of Vik, we head to our countryside hotel (Hótel Geirland or similar) near Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a fantastic base to catch the mesmerizing Northern Lights from September to April months if conditions are right.

Day 2 – Glacier hike & ice cave

After breakfast in the hotel, we head east towards the magnificent Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach. The lagoon is filled with icebergs of all shapes and sizes as they glide in a dreamlike procession toward the salty waves of the Atlantic. Many of them are washed ashore at Diamond Beach, glittering like diamonds on the black sand.

This is a great area to spot seals on the lagoon or the beach!

From October to April, we join our certified glacier guide and step into the mesmerizing world of the Vatnajokull Glacier in Skaftafell Nature Reserve. After taking a beautiful glacier hike, we’ll enter a natural ice cave where you’ll have some time to explore and take photos. Photographers will get the rare chance to capture mysterious blue light passing through glacial ice. During your adventure, an expert guide will explain how these glacial ice formations came.

From May to September, we go to the only natural ice cave you can visit all year – the Katla Ice Cave tour near Vik.

The ice cave we visit will be chosen based on current conditions. Including both ice cave and glacier hike exploration, we’ll spend roughly 2 hours on the ice. This tour is suitable for people who can walk for around 2 hours across easy outdoor terrain.

Your accommodation for the night will be at the same hotel (Hótel Geirland or similar)

Day 3 – The South Coast

After breakfast, we’ll start our day slowly driving towards Reykjavik and making plenty of stops. We’ll start the day with a quick detour to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon if the roads are clear.

Next, we’ll have the chance to visit the iconic Eldhraun lava field before heading to Reynisfjara black beach with its famous basalt columns. The powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean show their force here.

Please, be careful; the waves here can be unpredictable!

Next, we will visit Skógafoss, an impressive waterfall that drops 60 m into a tranquil pool below. The famous volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, lurks high above the waterfall, so if visibility is good, you’ll get a glimpse of this magnificent mountain glacier.

We’ll return to Reykjavík between 16:00 and 19:00, depending on the weather conditions.

Please wear warm clothes, waterproof layers, and hiking shoes!

Please note that meals (except breakfasts on your second and third day) are not included.
