Few places on Earth serve up a Christmas season quite like Iceland! Wintertime in these northern climes resembles the Christmases you’re used to seeing in picture books and festive movies.
Snow-covered landscapes? Seasonal tales filled with fantastic characters? Bellyfuls of fine food and drink? All this and much more await you in Iceland.
Maybe the Christmas spirit has gone to our heads, but at Your Friend in Reykjavik, we’ve put together a very special holiday prize draw.
Inspired by the mischievous 13 Yule Lads (more on them below), we’ve created our very own Yule Lads Advent Calendar – from December 12th to December 24th, we’ll be drawing a prize each day in correlation with the arrival of each of the Icelandic Santa’s.
Between December 12th and December 23rd, a small Iceland-themed prize will be revealed each day. All prizes will be mailed internationally to the lucky winners.
Then our prize draw will culminate on December 24th, with one lucky participant winning a once-in-a-lifetime Icelandic adventure during Christmas 2023!
– Flights to/from Iceland from the US or the UK in December 2023
– Airport pick-up & drop-off
– Three night’s accommodation by Center Hotels
– A selection of popular tours and experiences by Your Friend in Reykjavik, including a private Walk With a Viking Tour, Private Golden Circle Tour, Private Northern Lights Tour, and more.
Iceland’s folklore is an endless source of amusement for our winter guests. Jolly Santas, accompanied by giggling elves and docile reindeer, aren’t quite our style.
Nope, take a deep dive into Iceland’s winter traditions, and you’re destined to meet the likes of Grýla, the child-gobbling giantess, Leppalúði, her slob of a third husband, and Jólakötturinn (aka the Yule Cat), their monstrous house cat.
You’ll also meet the rascal children of Grýla and Leppalúði, 13 boys known as the Yule Lads. These 13 tricksters like nothing more than to endlessly prank Icelanders. Keep both eyes open during the Christmas season in Iceland – you never know when the Yule Lads will strike!
Learn the story of each mischief-making prankster by reading our 13 Yule Lads blog. And browse our Icelandic Christmas Traditions post to learn more about our festive rituals.
Get to know us better and get into the Christmas groove by joining us for one of our past winter walks. On December 10th we streamed live as we explored the festive streets of Reykjavik.
Watch the recording and accompany us through Reykjavik’s Christmas-lit and festive streets, exploring Iceland’s Christmas traditions (including the Yule Lads and their terrifying mother).
This family-friendly tour brings Icelandic winter traditions straight to your home – all brought to life with curious tales and ancient folklore.
We’ll also stopped at notable places around Reykjavik, uncovering hidden gems, and enjoying some Icelandic winter delicacies.
Come and celebrate with us!
