Meet the Yule Lads…

Iceland’s folklore is an endless source of amusement for our winter guests. Jolly Santas, accompanied by giggling elves and docile reindeer, aren’t quite our style.

Nope, take a deep dive into Iceland’s winter traditions, and you’re destined to meet the likes of Grýla, the child-gobbling giantess, Leppalúði, her slob of a third husband, and Jólakötturinn (aka the Yule Cat), their monstrous house cat.

You’ll also meet the rascal children of Grýla and Leppalúði, 13 boys known as the Yule Lads. These 13 tricksters like nothing more than to endlessly prank Icelanders. Keep both eyes open during the Christmas season in Iceland – you never know when the Yule Lads will strike!

By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
The Promoter is Your Friend in Reykjavik (Hrafnaþing ehf).
The competition is open to residents of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom aged 18 years or over.
There is no entry fee or purchase necessary to enter this competition.
This is a Facebook/Instagram/Website competition.
To submit a valid entry is by the following:
1. Registering for the competition at https://yourfriendinreykjavik.com/icelandic-christmas-getaway/
2. Completing all fields with valid details
3. Answering the competition questions
  1. Have you ever been to Iceland?
  2. By reading and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions
  3. By agreeing to signup for the newsletter from Your Friend in Reykjavik
  4. Forms for entry are also on the Facebook page of Your Friend in Reykjavik.
The prize is a three-night stay for two people in Reykjavik, Iceland, including flights from the US or the UK, accommodation, activities, attractions, and some dining & drinking experiences.
1. Airline tickets are valid for Economy class on PLAY airlines’ direct scheduled flight from the U.S and the UK to/from Iceland. Based on availability.
2. Accommodation for three nights in a hotel in the center of Reykjavik by Center Hotels (3 nights).
3. Activities and attractions include Private Tours with Your Friend In Reykjavik & Partners
4. Dining experiences included are at Bryggjan Brugghús, The Seabaron restaurant, and more.
The prize is as stated; no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability, and the Promoter reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
The prize cannot be transferred to any other person unless agreed to by the Promoter. It is a condition of accepting a prize that the winners accept the conditions of use of that prize.
Only one entry will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.
The closing date for entry will be 23 December 2022, at 11:59 GMT. After this date, no further entries to the competition will be permitted. The Promoter reserve the right to extend or suspend the competition.
No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
Winners will be chosen at random by software from all entries received and verified by the Promoter and/or their agents.
The winner will be notified by telephone or email and will be requested to confirm their the email address submitted and will only ever be contacted by Your Friend in Reykjavik. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, the Promoter reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
The judges’ decision is final!
The Promoter will notify the winner when the prize can be collected.
The Promoter’s decision regarding all matters concerning the competition will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by Icelandic law, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ireland.
This Icelandic Christmas getaway is to take place in December of 2023.
Peak travel times and holidays may not be available; all airline seats are subject to availability and capacity controls.
The tickets are non-transferable and have no cash redemption value. Both tickets must be used together.
Once ticketed, changes will be charged the current applicable fees.
A completed travel form must be submitted to PLAY airlines & Your Friend in Reykjavik at least 60 days before departure.
Once Flights are booked, a notification to the Your Friend in Reykjavik must be given in order to secure accommodation, dining, attractions, and experiences.
To be eligible to win, entrants must be eligible to travel and have a valid passport.
Canadian participants will have to cover their own costs when transporting to the US for the flight.
The winners are responsible for any Covid related expenses, such as but not limited to PCR testing.
By entering the competition, you indicate your consent to having your name and photo included in a winner announcement. The winner agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material, as well as their entry. Any personal data relating to the winner or entrants will be used solely following current European data protection legislation.
