The Lagoon and Highest Summit Helicopter Tour – Skaftafell

Upon arriving at Skaftafell Terminal, please make your way to our reception where our friendly staff will welcome you. You’ll then meet your pilot, who will go over the flight route and perform a safety briefing before we head out to the helicopter.

Once we’re airborne, our first stop is the colorful area of Kjós, a breathtaking canyon filled with fractured boulders and striking yellow crests, located at the head of the Morsárdalur glacier valley. It’s a sight you won’t soon forget.

From there, we’ll soar over Hvannadalshnjúkur (pronounced [ˈkvanːatalsˌn̥juːkʏr]), Iceland’s highest peak. Standing at 2110 meters above sea level, this towering giant on the volcanic glacier Öræfajökull is a true marvel. Due to the unique tectonic activity in Iceland, few mountains reach such heights, making Hvannadalshnjúkur a rare and majestic sight.

Next, we head to the famous Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, flying over Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. Jökulsárlón is known for its vast size and immense floating icebergs. It’s no wonder it’s been featured in Hollywood blockbusters like “A View to Kill,” “Die Another Day,” “Lara Croft,” and “Batman Begins,” as well as the TV show “The Amazing Race.”

As the icebergs at Jökulsárlón melt, they drift out to sea and often end up on the black sand beach, creating what’s fondly known as “Diamond Beach” with its sparkling icebergs scattered along the shore.

After taking in these awe-inspiring sights, we’ll fly back to Skaftafell Terminal along the stunning coastline, with views of the glacier, black sands, and farmlands below.

Please note that this is a helicopter tour with a 4 person minimum passenger requirement for this tour to take place. You can still go ahead and book the tour if you are fewer, and we will do our best to combine you with other bookings.
