You will have time to relax a little after your wonderful Icelandic Food journey from around 8 – 9 pm before heading out to a boat and starting the next adventure. Hunting the northern lights from the ocean is an amazing experience.
Hunting the northern lights from the ocean is an amazing experience; sailing away from the coastline of Reykjavik and seeing the aurora borealis out on the North-Atlantic ocean with beautiful mountains and the city in the background is something you won’t forget!
At 9 pm (1st October – 15th of March) you sail out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik and in only 15-20 minutes we will be in a prime location away from the city lights, perfect for viewing the auroras! The guide will share with you facts on the science behind the magical phenomenon of the Northern Lights, and tell you about their stories & myths from different cultures around the world. The tour takes about 2-3 hours depending on how early/late the lights might appear. In September and from the 15th of March until the 1st of May, the Northern Light hunt tour starts at 10 pm.
We recommend putting on our free overalls on-board (overalls also available in children’s sizes!) that will keep you nice and warm out on the deck, listening to what the guide has to say about the lovely colors dancing in the sky.
The Northern Lights Hunt is about 2-3 hours long so you should be back at the Reykjavik Harbor around 11 pm – 12 am.
The total length of this experience is then roughly from 5 pm – 12 am (with a 1-hour break).
We’ll be showing you our favorite places to eat, drink and visit in Reykjavik. We also have an intimate knowledge of happy hour deals that we’re happy to share.
We never have more than 12 of our new friends on this tour, meaning we can answer all of your questions and get to know each other a bit. But if you’d like a smaller, even more personal experience, check out our Private Reykjavik Food Tour option.
