Enjoy Iceland´s nature and culture in a full-day Golden Circle tour from Reykjavik with the added bonus of a rejuvenating stop at the Secret Lagoon in the end.
Your first stop is at Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland´s parliament was founded in 930 A.D. and where the two tectonic plates are visibly drifting apart. There we take an easy walk to Öxarárfoss waterfall.
The next stop is at the Geysir geothermal area, which is quite stunning and where we can witness the Strokkur geyser erupt every five minutes, and then we are off to the thundering Gullfoss waterfall which tops many lists as a must stop, when in Iceland. For a great lunch stop, we go to Fridheimar tomato greenhouse (please note that the Lunch is not included in the tour price)
To top it off, we visit the thermal pool called “Gamla Laugin ” (recently renamed as the Secret Lagoon) at the end of the tour. A perfect moment to avoid crowds and let you walk in with the locals. Formed in 1891, it boasts the oldest swimming pool in the country; it is maintained at a constant temperature of 38/40 °C, thanks to the hot waters from surrounding geothermal activity.
There is a full emphasis on nature and culture as you are told stories when you glide through the surroundings in a small group. The tour is operated in a minibus and does not exceed more than 19 people. This way the knowledgeable local guide can connect to all travelers.
The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular route and it is not by any coincidence. The route lies not so far from the capital and easily offers a variety of natural scenery to explore as well as many stories from the settlement of Iceland to our times. The added bonus of a relaxing stop at the Secret Lagoon is such a great way to end this day tour, before heading back to Reykjavik.
The Golden Circle is simply beautiful, and there is a reason why it’s the most popular day tour in Iceland.
The “holy trinity” of Thingvellir, Gullfoss waterfall, and the Geyser hot springs area.
Þingvellir (Thingvellir) national park is Your Friend in Reykjavik’s favorite place in Iceland because of its history and beautiful landscapes. It’s almost a religious experience to go there. Then you have the beautiful Gullfoss or the Golden Waterfall and finally the Geyser hot springs, which is a sight to behold.
When choosing the right partner for this small bus tour, we needed to ensure it was a personal experience. We have to put our trust in knowledgeable local guides to take good care of our friends worldwide.
Then they have the added bonus of going to Friðheimar tomato farm for Lunch and finally visiting the Secret Lagoon in the end for a relaxing soak before heading back to Reykjavik, all in the same day tour. What’s not to love? 😁.
