Tour description

GREAT FOR BEGINNERS

This Bike and Kayak Combo Day Tour includes Calm Water Kayaking and Around the Walls tours and creates a full day of activities.

The shores of the fjord are a great place to see wildlife. Expect to see Arctic Terns, Eider Ducks, Cormorants and Black Guillemots, and the curious seal colony, which lives at the end of the fjord.

Enjoy paddling along this easy route under the towering mountains surrounding the fjord, and see our wonderful town from a unique perspective.

We take a break for lunch before donning our helmets and hitting the trail. We ride along the mountainsides on easy tracks and through the rare Icelandic’ forest’.

The views across the water are stunning, and on a clear day, we’ll see across the ocean to the snowy mountains of the Snæfjallaströnd coastline.

This tour is very beginner friendly and is suitable for families. Our guides will be there to help you every step of the way. The mountain bike trail is easy to ‘mix and match, meaning we can include or avoid certain sections depending on ability.

The journey begins at our base in Mávagarður C (grey building), where you meet your guide and gear up. We then walk down to the shore behind the old houses in Neðstikaupstaður, where we have a short safety briefing and paddling lesson.

And then we’re off! We explore the fjord keeping a good lookout for various bird species and seals. We spend approximately 2 hours on the water before returning to our base in Mávagarður C.

After lunch, we start biking up the town’s main street, Aðalstræti. We bike up towards the mountains and the first slope that leads us to the avalanche barrier. We sneak behind the towering walls and bike along the backside, popping back out to continue along the mountain’s base.

We continue along the track towards the forest in Tungudalur, where we find the great Buná river and waterfall. We bike across the valley towards the final avalanche barrier for a great view over the fjord. The short and steep climb up the barrier is well worth the view. From here on, it’s an easy ride back into town.
