Two Fjord Kayaking

KAYAK TOUR FROM FJORD TO FJORD

The Two Fjord Kayaking day tour is a fun day out! The bay of Ísafjörður is an excellent place to kayak. The serene beauty of the fjord system is well known by locals but unfamiliar to the outside world. The coast of Snæfjallaströnd gives you the feeling that you are close to the Arctic Circle with its snow-covered hills and the fifth largest glacier in Iceland just around the corner.

The Two Fjord Kayaking day tour is our longest, an adventure into an extraordinary region of Iceland. We travel the whole length of Seyðisfjörður fjord, around the Folafótur (e. Horse Leg) peninsula and into Hestfjörður fjord. Along the way, we often spot whales, seals, dolphins and a huge variety of seabirds. Paddle under the cliffs which guard the mountain of Hestur while listening carefully for distant barks of the Arctic Fox.
Enjoy your lunch on the Folafótur peninsula, which holds a rich history. Over 100 people lived here, and the ruins of their settlement are still visible today.

The journey begins at our base in Mávagarður C (grey building), where you meet your guide and gear up.
We then drive for around 45 minutes from Ísafjörður to reach the head of Seyðisfjörður fjord, where we have a short safety briefing and paddle lesson.

We begin kayaking under the imposing mountain Hestur, with its cliffs and unique shape. After a couple of hours, we land at the very point of the Folafótur peninsula, where we land on a beautiful sandy beach to see the unusual rock formations caused by erosion while enjoying our lunch. We will keep a good lookout for seals, whales and white-tailed eagles as this is where they are often seen.

Paddling along the coast of Hestfjörður is our next mission, and we land close to the main road, where our car will be waiting to take us back to Ísafjörður.
