Rich in culture, Tröllaskagi showcases its history through local folk museums and cultural houses, which host exhibitions year-round for the knowledge-thirsty traveler.

Our journey begins as we drive from Akureyri, the capital of the north, out through the scenic Eyjafjörður fjord. The peninsula is marked by deep valleys carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age, with rivers now flowing through these magnificent formations. Although a few small glacier ice caps remain in central Tröllaskagi, they add to the region’s charm.

Along the way, we’ll visit picturesque fishing villages that have thrived for centuries on the bounty of the sea. We’ll pass through Dalvík and Ólafsfjörður, stopping at a black sand beach en route to Siglufjörður, a historic fishing town known for being the filming location of the TV series “Trapped.”

On our return trip, we’ll stop in Hauganes, a quaint village established in the late 19th century, with its first wooden house built in 1882. For centuries prior, the area served as a harbor for local farmers, sheltered from ocean currents. With a population of about 90 people, Hauganes has retained its charm over the past 50 years. Here, you’ll find hot tubs on the black beach, offering a unique opportunity to swim in the Atlantic Ocean!

To conclude our tour, we’ll enjoy a meal at Baccalá bar restaurant in Hauganes before heading back to Akureyri.
