All in One: Lake Mývatn and the Surroundings Are a Must-See While Exploring the North!
This comprehensive tour offers a perfect way to experience the natural wonders of North Iceland. We start by driving along the coast of Eyjafjörður, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, and make our first stop at Goðafoss, one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls. From there, we continue to Lake Mývatn, a stunning lake formed by a large basaltic lava eruption 2,300 years ago, surrounded by unique volcanic landscapes, including lava pillars and rootless vents.
As we explore, we’ll visit Skútustaðagígar, a site of intriguing pseudo craters, before heading to the extraordinary lava formations of Dimmuborgir—one of the most popular attractions in the Mývatn area. We’ll also stop at Grjótagjá Rift, a natural bathing spot filled with geothermal water from the earth’s rift.
Next, we head to the impressive Selfoss waterfall and Dettifoss, known as one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. You’ll also have the opportunity to relax with a dip in the warm geothermal waters of the Mývatn Nature Baths.
On our return to Akureyri, we’ll make one last stop in Eyjafjörður, offering panoramic views over the fjord with a perfect photo opportunity. This moderately priced, well-organized small group tour (maximum 16 people) ensures a personalized and memorable experience of North Iceland.
