The Geothermal Exhibition in Hellisheiði

Just a 20-minute drive from Reykjavík, ON Power’s Hellisheiði Power Plant offers a fascinating insight into Iceland’s green, sustainable energy. Located in the beautiful Hengill area, surrounded by mossy lava fields and marked hiking paths, this is the perfect stop on your way south or as part of a Golden Circle adventure.

At the Geothermal Exhibition, you’ll discover how Iceland harnesses its volcanic forces to produce clean, renewable energy at one of the world’s largest single-site geothermal power stations. Through interactive displays, films, and exhibits, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the science behind geothermal energy and its importance for a sustainable future.

Your visit includes a self-guided audio tour, which takes around 45 minutes. You are also welcome to chat with our knowledgeable Science Communicators, who are happy to answer any questions during your visit. Guided tours are available for groups on request via email, but cannot be booked directly through the widget.

We recommend bringing your Smartphone and headphones to make the most of the audio guide. Free parking is available on-site, making it easy to combine a visit with nearby hiking or sightseeing.
