Golden Circle Tour description

Enjoy Iceland’s nature and culture on this full-day, classic tour of the country’s Golden Circle route.

Departing from Reykjavik, your first stop is at Thingvellir National Park, where Iceland’s parliament was founded in 930 A.D. and where the two tectonic plates are visibly drifting apart. There we take an easy walk to the magnificent Öxarárfoss waterfall. Regarded by many as the birthplace of the Icelandic nation, Thingvellir is a must-visit destination.

The next stop is at the Geysir geothermal area, a unique landscape where guests can witness the Strokkur geyser erupt every five minutes. Then we are off to the thundering Gullfoss waterfall, which tops many lists of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls (and we have many!).

While here, we’ll visit some friendly horses, stop by the Efstidalur dairy farm for some ice cream, and meet Icelandic cows and other domestic animals. We’ll explore the Laugarvatn geothermal area to learn how Icelandic rye bread (also known as lava bread) is baked in the ground and go to Fridheimar tomato greenhouse for a nice lunch (please note that the Lunch is not included in the tour price).

To finish the great Golden Circle tour, we will visit the famous, otherworldly Kerið crater lake.

Throughout the tour, there is an emphasis on nature and culture. As you explore, you will be told multiple stories about this land. The tour is operated in a minibus and does not exceed more than 19 people, meaning the experience remains intimate. This way, your knowledgeable local guide can connect to all travelers and answer any questions you might have.

The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular route, and it is for a good reason – this is Iceland at its epic, magisterial best! The route lies close to Reykjavik, yet it offers a splendid variety of natural scenery to explore and many tales from the settlement of Iceland to our present day.
